Flora and fauna

The flora of France is diverse and depends on the region. High in the mountains, mainly mosses and lichens grow. Alpine meadows are located on the slopes above the upper border of the forest, which are used for grazing sheep and cattle. Below the upper border of the forest, there are coniferous forests consisting of pine, larch, fir and spruce. The lower the height in the mountains, the taller and slender the trees growing there. Coniferous forests give way to broad-leaved forests of oak, beech and chestnut.

There are not so many forests preserved in France. Almost all of the plains are plowed up. Plantations usually stretch along roads and canals. They are most typical for the landscapes of the bocages of Normandy and Brittany. The most interesting is the vegetation on the Mediterranean coast. Only those plants can grow here that tolerate a long summer drought. There are no forests, some small trees and shrubs grow. There are outcrops of bedrock between them. The most typical trees in this area are olive, cork oak and Aleppo pine.

The fauna of France is not very diverse. Human economic activity had a strong negative impact on the country's fauna. However, the wild fauna is better preserved here than in neighboring countries. Central European, Mediterranean and Alpine species of animals live in France. Most of them live in reserves and national parks of the country. For example, in the West-Iberian Park, there are turkey bears and bears, and in the Vanoise National Park in Savoy, stone goats live.

Predatory mammals are represented by foxes, badgers, otters, and the geneta lives in the south of the country. Of the rodents, squirrels, rats and mice are the most characteristic. A large number of bats are found in the southern regions. In some places, hares are still preserved. In some large forests, animals such as red deer, roe deer, wild boar and beaver live. In the mountainous areas about. Corsica is inhabited by mouflons, or wild rams.

There are many different birds. The Pyrenees are inhabited by: willow warbler, bullfinch, pika, meadow chimney, song thrush, capercaillie, ratchet warbler and woodcock. There are also: red-winged stencreeper, white-toothed thrush, alpine jackdaw, gray and tundra partridge, and Ialpine finch. Birds such as the bearded vulture, griffon vulture and vultures also live in France. The mountains are home to large feathered predators, including eagles and sea eagles. Most of the waterfowl are in the Camargue region, located in the Rhone Delta.

France's fish resources are depleted. Most often in rivers and lakes, trout is found, which is artificially bred. The Bay of Biscay is home to sardines, flounder and herring, as well as lobster, shrimp and shellfish.

Activities

Grenobles cable road

A truly unique object is the Grenoble cable car, it is the first of its kind to be built on the territory of the city. The opening of the cable car took place on September 29, 1934, it greatly facilitated the access to one of the most important attractions - the Bastille fortress for local residents and guests of the city. The very first "cars" of the cable car looked different than now, they were designed for 21 passengers.

The movement of the booths is very smooth, so even those who are afraid of heights will be able to overcome the 673-meter path unnoticed. Despite the fact that in comparison with the "world giants" the length of the Grenoble cable car is relatively short, on an urban scale it continues to be one of the confident leaders. Local residents consider the cable car one of the main symbols of the city and affectionately call its cabins "bulles". The lower station of the cable car begins on the quay of Grenoble, it is surprising that with such an arrangement, there are never queues.

Arcachon beach

In France, one of the most secluded beaches is Arcachon, located in Aquitaine, on the territory of the resort of the same name. The length of this gently sloping beach, covered with white sand, is about 5km, finding a quiet place on the beach for a secluded holiday will not be difficult even at the height of the tourist season.

It is noteworthy that the Arcachon resort is well known not only to fans of beach holidays, but also to gourmets. The fact is that oysters have been bred on the coast for many years, and in nearby restaurants, visitors are offered to try a lot of amazing seafood dishes. Secluded and deserted areas of Arcachon Beach give way to rather lively ones; many tourists prefer to move along the coast by bicycles.

The unique beach is one of the largest in Europe; in the central part of the coast, its width reaches 300 meters. Travelers who want to diversify their vacation on the beach with walks to interesting places will have the opportunity to visit the largest dune in Europe, which is 118 meters high. In the evening, a significant part of vacationers move to restaurants located near the coast, and a truly quiet and serene atmosphere reigns on the beach.

Climate
