The nature house is located in a beautiful and very varied environment. Old area with traces of medieval habitation. Directly on hiking and cycling trails (junction network) through nature of Beetsterzwaagse forests and Lippenhuisterheide, in the middle of stream valley of the Koningsdiep. To the east, towards Drenthe, even more forest and heathland, also sand drifts, such as the Aekingerzand. To the west, the landscape becomes more open, vast and with more water: the former peat extraction area. Now a beautiful area including the beautiful low moor reserve De Deelen, where you can walk over narrow paths and small bridges, and reserve De Kraanlânnen with many birds. The Opsterlandse Compagnonsvaart, dug in peat extraction time, is still in use. From Heerenveen via Gorredijk/Lippenhuizen to Appelscha and Drenthe. Also beautiful to cycle along. Near Heerenveen park landscape Oranjewoud. Many birds around the house. Number of badger setts nearby. Deer in the country. Many storks.
