Nature house in Assier
Midi-Pyrénées, France

The foundations of this authentic farm are from the 14th century. What originally used to be the storage place for grains and nuts has been converted into this charming ruralhut, simply because of its convenient location; on the south-west. The ruralhut is just a few meters away from the owner’s house, but still offers plenty of privacy thanks to its location. It has its own private terrace and fully fenced garden. On the open farmyard behind the garden, you can find a small lake and pigeon tower from the 16th century. The farm is a part of a small hamlet, with another farm (cows and sheep), and two houses, all at a distance of at least 200 meters. The entirety is surrounded by meadows and forests. The closest village (Assier) is within walking distance (1.5 kilometers) and has a supermarket, a bakery, a butcher, a post office, a pharmacist, a general practitioner, a cybercafé, two restaurants, two cafes, a tennis court, fishing lakes, and a ‘parcours de santé’. And not to mention the beautiful imposing castle and church both in Renaissance style. The ruralhut is suitable for four people. The thick stone walls keep the house cool during the summer, and during the winter the house is well heated by central heating, and if you would like, you can start a fire in the wood stove. There’s internet available using WiFi.
Nature and surroundings
As the ruralhut is located in the Parc Naturel Régional des Causses du Query, it is surrounded by protected nature. During the summer, activities are organized by “le Parc” on regular basis for nature and culture lovers and their children. The largest part of the department consists of causses, a relatively flat area (ideal for cyclists) consisting of limestone deposits. Birds of prey and swallows like to build their nests in the steep rocky walls created by the rivers Célé (10 kilometers) and Lot (30 kilometers). You can go canoeing on the Célé, and take boat trips on the Lot. Cahors (50 kilometers) and Figeac (25 kilometers) are cozy and beautifully restored medieval towns. You can go shopping, have excellent food, go to a terrace, visit markets, etcetera. Rocamadour (40 kilometers) and Padirac Caves (40 kilometers) are world-renowned tourist attractions. Saint Cirq Lapopie (70 kilometers) has been voted as one of France’s most beautiful villages. There are endless possibilities for hiking trips in the unspoilt nature (hiking maps are available) and visit castles in pristine villages. Not to mention the countless of brocantes during the summer months. The landlords know the area well and would be more than happy to give you tips and information.
