Frederiksoord, the closest village, is the historical heart of the Society of Weldadigheid and has been nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Frederiksoord is surrounded by no less than three (out of 10 Dutch) National Parks: the Drents Friese Wold, the Dwingelder Veld and the Weerribben and Wieden. In Drenthe, there are the beautiful brink villages, Vledder, Diever, Dwingeloo and Havelte.
