This nature house is really in the middle of the nature of Drenthe, wedged between the oldest primeval forests of the Netherlands and one of the few, well-preserved unique raised bog areas. The nature house is a national monument from 1839 and is part of the steam cotton mill complex as part of the "Third Gesticht"(from Pauper Paradise). After decades of ruins, the building was fully restored in 2002 and in the old dormitory, with a sense of style and character, three independent double apartments were realized. The nature house has a bathroom with floor heating, an open kitchen with combi microwave, dishwasher, a TV and a wood stove. Upstairs is a sleeping loft with a double bed. At the front of the nature house you have a view of the forest, at the back spacious views over the beautiful vast farmlands; perfect for rest and a relaxing stay in nature. The nature house Oud Bergveen is located in the heart of the most natural part of Drenthe and Friesland. From the cottage you can walk or bike directly into nature for hours to walk, cycle, wander through one of the oldest forests in the Netherlands, the Norgerholt (approximately 25 ha large and dating from the ninth century), the Forestry Veenhuizen (approximately 800 ha with rare flora and fauna) or the adjacent Fochteloërveen (with approximately 2500 ha the best preserved raised bog area in the Netherlands with a large crane area) or the National Park Drents-Fries Wold. Near nature house Oud Bergveen are also several good restaurants and many attractions including the National Prison Museum and the villages of Norg and Langelo. Also Groningen, Assen and Drachten are all within approximately 25/30 minutes by car.
