Slovenia vacation
Slovenia is a country in Central Europe, which shares a common border with Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. The country lies on the shore of the Adriatic Sea, while its land is mostly mountainous and covered in dense forestation. In fact, it is the third mostly forested country in Europe, coming after Finland and Sweden. The country’s territory is a meetup point for the Dinaric Alps and the Pannonian Plain, but are also covered by the Julian Alps in the northwest part of Slovenia.
The Republic of Slovenia has been blessed with an ideal location. Since forever, the country has been a crossroad for the Slavic and Germanic tribes and the Roman Empire. Therefore, the population has taken something from every nation crossing its land – culture- and language-wise. Slovenia is a place where history literally bursts from every corner and choosing to go on a vacation there is not a hard choice to make. Now, wait until you hear about its nature – then you will be booking one of our beautiful vacation homes in Slovenia within a moment!
The natural wonders of Slovenia
More than a third of Slovenia’s territory is under the NATURA-200 scheme and is therefore highly protected. The people of Slovenia have established a deep connection with their homeland and its nature by living in peace and respect with Mother Nature. For example, agriculture and especially farming are developed in such a manner that it has become more of a craftsmanship and less of a business. There are thousands of family farms, more than 700 of them are tourist farms, and more than 2,000 are registered organic farms.
Triglav National Park is the pearl in Slovenia’s jewels. This undeniably incredible national park is named after the tallest peak in the country – Triglav. The park is located on the premises of the Eastern Julian Alps. Visitors to this protected area are welcomed by stunning Alpine nature, glacial valleys, picturesque villages, forests and pastures, and of course rare Alpine flowers. What makes the area under the peak so striking is the way the sun reflects in everything – from the lake water to the rocks. You will not believe the colors which you will see especially from a high panorama spot.
Škocjan Caves Park is another remarkable natural treasure this country has. It represents a network of underground caves and galleries filled with geological artefacts. The caves are part of UNESCO’s World Heritage and their significance has been internationally recognized. Not only is this one of the largest cave systems, but together with River Reka they represent one of the deepest underground wetlands in Europe.
Activities
Cycling and hiking are the two most popular outdoor activities here mainly due to the geology of the country. There are more than 15,000 marked hiking trails crossing Slovenia allowing you to discover the lowlands, the hills, the highlands, the peaks and even the coast.
Soča River is the place for those seeking adrenaline – you can go rafting or kayaking with your friends and enjoy the tumultuous waters of the river. Triglav National Park and especially the river areas which cross it are the perfect spot for exploring canyons and caves. Lake Bled on the other hand, provides the possibility to ride on a hot-air balloon and immerse in the breathtaking views of this amazing country.
