Winter nature

The Dolomites Mountain Range is one of our favorite winter destinations. Essentially, the Dolomites are the northern part of the Italian Alps and a breath-taking place which you will always want to come back to. For some spectacular scenery, head to one of the many lakes there – Tret, Favogna, or Valdurna. This region is known as South Tyrol and except for being the home of some of the best apples in Europe, it is also where you will find Three Peaks UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site!

Sweden is another amazing winter destination. The snow, the northern lights, the nature, the people and their way of living in the hardly bearable cold – everything is fascinating. In order for you to fully grasp the term “real winter” head to Lapland. In Abisko, which is one of the northernmost points in Sweden and also one of the last train stops here, you can roam nature with a guide and in complete darkness if you choose to visit during the “no-sun” period of December and January. Nevertheless, this is also the best time to see the Aurora Borealis as there is hardly any light to disturb your view.

Winter activities

Of course, the Swiss or Italian side of the Alps is among the most popular destinations for a winter holiday in Europe. The ski resorts are suitable for anyone from beginners to professionals and whatever your level of expertise is, rest assured you will have a great time on the slopes.

Lapland is a place of great adventure for the whole family. Lapland is a wild Nordic territory which is jointly taken care of by both the Swedish and Norwegian governments. This stunning location allows you to experience a real Christmas adventure with Santa Claus’ village, lots of reindeer and priceless landscape of snowy wood. The peace and quiet is immeasurable!

Urho Kekkonen National Park is located in Finland and is one of the biggest protected areas in Europe. There are also winter ski areas, the most famous of which are located near Saariselkä and Kiilopää Fell Centre. The slopes are regularly maintained and marked in accordance with their level of difficulty. Snowmobiling is loved by locals and tourists. One of the best routes for snowmobiling is in Rovaniemi (Lapland) and it’s a 3-hour-trip through the best powder throughout the country.
