Glamping Bornholm
Glamping is a popular method to explore nature without compromising with your comfort. The name “glamping” is derived from the combination of words “glamorous” and “camping” and refers to yurts, tents, huts and cottages amidst wild nature , which allow you to enjoy camping in the great outdoors, without a lack of amenities. Our glamping options have become more and more preferred and the number of locations to offer such accommodation is bigger than ever. Our newest proposition is for a trip to Denmark for a glamping adventure on the beautiful island of Bornholm.
The Danish island of Bornholm is located to the east of the country in the Baltic sea. Known as the capital of arts and crafts, this island is the workplace to thousands of arts and crafts artists working with glass, pottery and stone. The Sunny Island of Denmark, as it is popularly called, is a great place to visit during the summer and autumn months. The climate is mild all the way through October, due to a unique characteristic of the island’s rock formations preserving the summer heat all throughout the autumn months.
Nature on the Sunny Island
Even though Bornholm is not extremely big of an island, there are remarkable natural wonders to admire practically everywhere. In our opinion, visit as many sights as possible during your stay, as the island is unique in terms of its nature. Among the top list of must-visits there are three places which we believe are absolutely worth it.
Hammeren is a protected area and is located in the northernmost part of Bornholm and includes the largest lake (Hammersø), as well as the only glacial lake in Denmark as a whole – Stejlebjerg. Overall, Hammeren provides countless possibilities to get acquainted with the distinctive island nature of Bornholm and amazing views of the sea.
Almindingen is the second must-see on our list – one of the largest forests in Denmark, located right at the center of the island. This piece of land is a natural oasis and is often called the “Disneyland” for nature enthusiasts. In the area you will find one of the most spectacular rift valleys in Europe – Ekkodalen – a lowland “hugged” between steep rocky cliffs.
Last, but definitely not least, head to the southernmost tip of the island to visit the remarkably beautiful white sand beach of Dueodde. Enjoy this protected area with its rich biodiversity, sand dunes and the lighthouse. The whole area is magnificent in terms of its beauty and the Baltic sea views it provides.
Activities
Almindingen offers plenty of possibilities for hiking – there are many paths connecting the small villages of the area. Birdwatching is also a popular activity throughout the whole island, but here there are hundreds of watch towers built to facilitate ornithologists in their passion. Climbing, hiking and mountain biking through Almindingen are also very popular among visitors. If you prefer the beaches, the locals love surfing and abseiling, kayaking and even diving. The island has been named as one of the best trekking places throughout Europe multiple times.
